The 11u Spring Challenge Team
played an outstanding tournament May4-6 at Indian Trail and took the
championship with an impressive 5-0 record in the May 4-6 CCBL 3A tournament
(Carolina Challenge Baseball League). Friday night they played a
tough East Lincoln team and the contest started out very close with East
Lincoln taking a 1-0 lead after 2 innings. Then the Stewards bats came alive
and they scored 5 in the 3rd and 6 more in the 4th for a 11-1 win.
Saturday they played 2 games and came away
with an 8-2 victory over Coul Oak in game one. In the second game
Stewards were down early to Sardis 3-1 before scoring 6 runs in the 4th
inning and one more in the 5th for a 8-4 victory. On Sunday Stewards had
little trouble with Old Providence Nationals scoring 4 in the 1st inning and
6 more in the second inning en route to a 10-0 victory.
In the championship game on Sunday Stewards
faced East Lincoln. The game started out close again with Stewards
scoring one in the first against East Lincoln's ace pitcher. Once
again, the Stewards pitching and defense held off the opponents until their
bats came alive in the 3rd inning scoring 4 runs and in the 5th inning
scoring 6 more times for a final score of 11-2.
Through out the tournament the 11u Stewards
team display a balanced attack of good pitching, tight defense and timely
hitting. Leading the offense was Justin Elliot (.444, .643 OBA), Joe
Bryant (.444, .583 OBA), Thomas Remick (.444, .545 OBA), Richard Landis
(.417, .429 OBA) Ryan Jernigan and Justin Brooks (both .385, .429 OBA) and
