10u Stewards Place 2nd in Challenge Tourney


 
The Stewards "Americans" 10u 2006 spring challenge team placed 2nd in the new Carolina Challenge Baseball league tournament April 28-30.  Highlights from game 1 saw the Stewards team play stellar defense with excellent pitching from starter Richard Landis and relievers Chase Loomer and Justin Elliot.  That combined with timely hitting led to a 9-3 victory.  Game 3 was a nail biter with Stewards inching out a 9-8 victory on Frankie Walsh's clutch base hit in the bottom of the 6th.  In game 4 Stewards put it all together with strong pitching from starter Chase Loomer and a dominant hitting attack lead by Frankie Walsh (3-3), Justin Brooks (2-2) and  Zach Hamilton (2-2). The 11-1 victory took this group to their 1st championship game appearance. 

In the championship game a very strong Piedmont team got off to a early lead. Stewards bats lead by Clay Worley (2-3) and Ryan Jernigan (2-3) battled back but were defeated by Piedmont 10-4.

Overall a strong performance for the Stewards 10u "Americans" team lead by Frankie Walsh with a .625 on base percentage (OBP) , Zach Hamilton, .462 OBP, Ryan Jernigan, .438 OBP and Clay Worley .438 OBP.
