Annual Golf Outing Provides Funding for New
Annual Scholarship Program
Huntersville,
NC — Stewards of the Game awarded its first “Christian Character College
Scholarship” to Jared Russell at Southlake Christian Academy’s graduation
ceremony on May 28, 2005. Jared, who will be attending Appalachian State
University in the fall, will receive $10,000 from Stewards of the Game for his
college education.
“Jared
is confident, smart, intuitive, respectful, and realistic — and a strong man of
God,” says Shawn White, the volunteer chairman of the Stewards of the Game
scholarship committee. “He exemplifies the core values of Stewards of the Game
in the classroom, on the playing fields, and throughout the community. I believe
he is the perfect candidate to be our 2005 Stewards of the Game Christian
Character Scholarship award winner.”
The college
scholarship program is a direct result of the fund-raising activities of the
Stewards of the Game Golf Outing, which is held each October at the NorthStone
Club. Stewards of the Game is a faith-based, non-profit youth sports
organization offering baseball and basketball programs to young athletes in the
north Mecklenburg and south Iredell area.
“The purpose of
the Stewards of the Game Christian Character College Scholarship Program is to
award educational scholarships to deserving high school seniors who best
exemplify Christ-like character and who live out the core values of Stewards of
the Game in all aspects of their lives,” White says. “We look forward to
honoring area high school students for many years to come.”
Jared will be the
guest of honor at a Stewards of the Game banquet this November that will also
feature local professional athletes. Proceeds from the banquet will go toward
future scholarships.
Stewards of the
Game, a faith-based youth sports program, is a registered 501 (c)(3) non-profit
organization founded in 2000. Stewards of the Game provides spring and fall
baseball leagues, summer basketball camps and clinics, and winter basketball
leagues to teach sports skills … and life lessons through sports. The baseball
and basketball programs are funded through league registration fees and the
generous financial support of individuals, corporate partners, and the
community. All coaches and administrative support donate their time and talents
on a volunteer basis. Financial statements are available.
