2003 10U All-Star Team Makes Fine Showing in Cal Ripken Area Tournament
Bottom Row (left to right): Sam Remick, Nolan Hampton, Jared Sobo, Thomas Remick (batboy), William Frazier, Tanner Cassady, Chris Beam. Standing (left to right): Nick Phillips, Nathan Sharp, Daniel Armstrong, Cameron Travis, Dillon Maddox and Danny Wintermeier. Coaches: (left to right): Mike Sharp, Brad Frazier and Ben Travis. The Stewards of the Game 10 and under All Stars
were strong competitors in the Cal Ripken area tournament held in
Marshville, NC on July 3rd through July 5th.
This team of outstanding young ballplayers worked very hard
in preparation for the tournament and displayed skills not commonly
seen at this level of play. The
team finished play with a record of two wins and two losses in the
double elimination format. The highlight of the competition for this team was defeating
last years 9-year old State Champions from Anson County (10-year
olds this year) by a score of 3-2 in the teams’ first game of the
tournament. The Anson
team went on to be State Champs again this year, but not without two
tough games against the Stewards of the Game 10-year olds.
Anson came back to beat our team 6-3 in a “winner
advances” game as both teams had one defeat at the time. Prior to the official Cal Ripken Tournament,
this team participated in a regional tournament in Marion, NC with
other Cal Ripken affiliated All Star teams and finished the weekend
with a 4-0 record, winning by a combined score of 72-6. Throughout the All Star season this team made a supreme effort to become the best players and the best team they could be and in doing so represented Stewards of the Game, their families, and themselves with great distinction. **************************************************************
