Basketball Program Highlights
| Overview: |
Every
successful youth basketball program must provide each player the
opportunity to become the best basketball player he is capable of
becoming.
As each individual is blessed with different abilities and
talents, this implies providing fair, but not always the same
opportunities, for each player to strive to achieve his own personal
best.
Moreover, it is during the struggle to achieve this personal
success that lasting life lessons like perseverance,
self-confidence, and humility are learned.
Stewards of the Game, or any youth sports program, can only
build these important character traits and lasting life lessons
within a framework that encourages and challenges each individual to
become the best he is capable of becoming.
Growth, be it physical or spiritual, requires struggle.
Romans
5: 3-5
Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because
we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance,
character; and character, hope.
And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out
his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.
In
order for players to be given th
is opportunity, age-appropriate fundamentals and sound basketball
principles must be at the very foundation of basketball instruction. |
| Practices: |
During the pre-season we intend to offer each team
at least 2-3 practices per week, based on court availability. Each
practice will last approximately 1 ½ hours. Once games begin, practices
will likely be twice a week.
|
| Fundamentals: |
Consistent with our overall philosophy and core values,
our goal is to start with basic skills and teach more advanced concepts
only after these basic skills are learned. There are 10 fundamental
skill areas that we will focus on: Warming up properly, Conditioning,
Ball Handling & Dribbling, Passing & Cutting, Shooting, Defense,
Rebounding, Half Court Offense, Fast Breaks, Full Court Press (Offense
and Defense). Detailed information on each of these 10 skill areas
is available upon request, and will be available soon on our website
@ www.stewardsofthegame.org.
|
| League Play: |
The number of regular season and playoff games will
vary by age group. We also plan to offer "challenge" play for the
more advanced players.
|
| Summer Programs: |
We hold several camps and weekend
clinics throughout the summer. Some of these events will be
co-sponsored by Stewards of the Game and various churches in the area.
Contact us for more information regarding our June and July camps!
